Occupational Therapy is a client-centered health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation. An Occupational Therapist sparks like a star in the sky of the rehabilitation field. Bangladesh Health Professions Institute (BHPI) is an academic Institute of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), started diploma in Occupational Therapy in 1995 and Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with the accreditation of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) and affiliation of Medicine Faculty, University of Dhaka in 1999. So far, 410 OTs have graduated from here and practicing occupational Therapy worldwide. Recently BHPI is offering Master of Science in Occupational Therapy Program to the graduate OTs.

In 1972, following the liberation war in Bangladesh, the need for a rehabilitation center for wounded freedom fighters and war-affected civilians arose. Professor R. J. Garst, an American Orthopedic Surgeon, played a crucial role in addressing this need.
